Artist Statement SIGGRAPH
It doesn't matter if it's a birthday, anniversary, or royal reign; hitting the 50-year mark is thrilling and epic! It is Golden! Why else would they call it a golden jubilee? This poster recognizes Siggraph's 2023 conference, where they are celebrating 50 years. Therefore, I wanted to highlight its golden year in multiple ways: first, by using "GOLDEN" as its eye-catching title and then incorporating the color itself. Siggraph's premier conference and numerous exhibits focus on the growing field of computer graphics and interactive techniques. I started with the Adobe Illustrator suite, an excellent software used to create graphics, specifically gold artistic lines to give it a scientific feel; then I added black and gray illustrations to complement the company's overall theme. To add contrast, I needed a dark color to allow the importance of the gold to pop. I created the background to be a black-to-gunmetal gray gradient to let the eyes flow deep into the poster and absorb everything in. The lines are curved rather than straight to allow the audience's eyes to flow and move across the sign, representing the openness to ideas and other inspirations. These lines flow off the page to make the audience wonder if an ending exists; the possibilities are endless. That truly makes it "GOLDEN."
