Artist Statement
I chose to focus on a recipe book since I consider myself a “foodie;” especially concerning sweets. My mother is a fantastic cook and often joked with my sister and me when we were young that we were eating at a fancy restaurant called “Casa LoCoco." I gathered some of her recipes that I enjoy the most, and, surprise, they all happen to be desserts. As stated in my cookbook, my sister and I would not finish our dinner but then look for a dessert claiming we had two separate stomachs, one for real food and the other reserved for dessert. Since my mom loves to bake, she humored us. I wanted to share some of her recipes for everyone to enjoy. I chose a variety of homemade cakes, treats, ice cream, and more. I encourage everyone to try the date bars; they are my all-time favorite. They were my mother's favorite dessert growing up, followed by a chocolate cookie. Most people hesitate to try them because they think they do not like dates or they have never had one. I insist, and once tasted, everyone falls in love. I hope to pass these recipes along to my family and dream that they will become important in other households, too. Try them; I do not think you will be disappointed. Enjoy
