Let me present my series called All Bottled Up. Conceptionally, these images show the actions and consequences of an item created by humans. My inspiration came from a half-empty plastic water bottle sitting on the desk in front of me. I considered the ways packaging a natural resource like water impacts our society which inspired my series. In the first photograph, I featured the ocean with an object masked in the shape of a plastic water bottle, bobbing in the water. The image represents the original home of the water inside the water bottle and how humans took the water in mass and placed it inside a manufactured item. For centuries humans traveled long distances to find clean water sources. In the United States, clean water supply is abundant; however, we placed it inside an item that no longer makes it clean. The second photograph in the series features kids at a public water fountain. The primary figure is a girl being splashed by the water as it flows from a plastic bottle. I used the same masked water bottle again to represent that water is essential to humans, not only to drink but to bath, cook and use in everyday life. That concept leads to the third image; the mass production of plastic water bottles. People embrace the convenience of carrying a plastic water bottle everywhere and it has become a multimillion-dollar industry. They allow people to have water on hand at all times. As the demand grows, there is an increasing demand for plastic factories. The fourth image shows a factory with one of the large vents being replaced by the masked water bottle as the gas rises from the lid. Humans began mass-creating plastic water bottles to make water more accessible, however they introduced a new struggle for the planet. The pollution from the factories and now litter are destroying our home. The final image is of the pile of many plastic water bottles trashed on the side of the beach with the masked water bottle shape joining them. The human’s creation of the water bottle is now destroying the place it came from and dirtying more of the clean water the humans need.
